The You Are Worth It Program at Sam Houston High School in Lake Charles, La. Our program shares the message that our students are valuable, important and can accomplish anything through hard work and determination. YAWI uses a direct and honest approach to share the results of making bad decisions and urges students to have a plan to be safe if they decide to use alcohol. We incorporate servants of the community such as police, firemen, church leaders, and teachers (who are already present) to attend our events. We point out that the students are the future of the communities in which these professionals serve. This means that they are valuable and cared for by the people in these professions. The fact that these groups take the time out of their day to come to a YAWI event proves that point. Our goal is to make the streets of our communities safer through education.
